Disclaimer & Terms of Use

Last updated: February 2025

1. Educational Purpose Only

Uptake Anesthesia ("the Tool") is an educational research tool designed to assist Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs), and other anesthesia providers in exploring published medical literature and clinical references. The Tool is intended solely for educational, informational, and research purposes. It does not provide medical advice, clinical recommendations, diagnosis, or treatment plans.

2. Not a Substitute for Professional Clinical Judgment

The information generated by this Tool must never be used as a substitute for the independent clinical judgment of a qualified healthcare provider. All patient care decisions, including but not limited to anesthetic plans, drug selection, dosing, airway management, and monitoring, must be made by licensed practitioners based on direct patient assessment, institutional protocols, current standards of care, and the practitioner's own professional expertise.

Do not rely on this Tool for time-critical, emergent, or life-threatening clinical decisions.

3. No Provider-Patient Relationship

Use of this Tool does not establish a provider-patient relationship between the user, the developers, or any affiliated party. No duty of care arises from access to or use of this Tool. The developers and contributors do not assume any responsibility for clinical outcomes associated with information retrieved or generated by the Tool.

4. Artificial Intelligence Limitations

This Tool uses artificial intelligence (AI) language models to synthesize responses. AI-generated content may contain:

  • Factual errors, including incorrect drug names, dosages, or clinical values
  • Fabricated or hallucinated citations that do not correspond to real publications
  • Outdated information that does not reflect current evidence or guidelines
  • Omissions of critical safety information, contraindications, or warnings
  • Incorrect associations between drugs, procedures, or clinical conditions

All AI-generated content must be independently verified against primary sources before any clinical application. The presence of a citation or reference number does not guarantee the accuracy or existence of the cited source.

5. Drug Information & Interaction Data

Drug dosages, interactions, contraindications, and pharmacological information presented by this Tool are derived from published sources including PubMed abstracts, FDA-approved drug labeling (via OpenFDA), and curated clinical references. This information:

  • May not reflect the most current FDA labeling, black box warnings, or REMS requirements
  • May not account for patient-specific factors (renal/hepatic impairment, allergies, genetic polymorphisms, pregnancy, pediatric or geriatric considerations)
  • Must be cross-referenced with current FDA-approved package inserts, institutional formularies, clinical pharmacist consultation, and relevant society guidelines (ASRA, ASA, ACC/AHA) before clinical application
  • Should not be used to make anticoagulation bridging, hold, or reversal decisions without consulting institutional protocols and the patient's prescribing provider

6. Data Sources & Third-Party Content

This Tool retrieves and presents content from the following external sources. The developers do not control, guarantee, or assume liability for the accuracy, completeness, or currency of third-party content:

NLM does not claim copyright on PubMed abstracts; individual journal publishers or authors may hold copyright on their respective works. StatPearls content is attributed to its original authors and StatPearls Publishing, Treasure Island, FL. This Tool displays brief attributed excerpts for educational reference and links to the original content. Full license terms at creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0.
  • DailyMed: FDA-approved drug labeling and package inserts provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Content is in the public domain per NLM policy.
